    Connections Seminar

An assessment strategy for developing oral presentation skills in a third year Pathology course
This seminar was held as part of our weekly Connections in Learning and Teaching seminar series.

PATH3205 Molecular Basis of Disease is a third year course in Pathology for Medical Science students (n-73). The Research Group presentation assessment is designed to engage students into their Community of Practice (Wenger, 2008) by embedding academic oral presentation literacy.  These facilitate a positive collaborative learning environment and enables oral communication skills in a research context. The 'role of the researcher' is the Threshold Concept (Myer & Land, 2006) that is central to this assignment. This workshop will discuss the process of engagement and the 'researcher's' reaction to it.

This seminar will be presented by Dr. Patsie Polly, School of Medical Sciences and Gwyn Jones, The Learning Centre.

    30th Aug 2011, 1:00pm to 2:00pm
