New Opportunities in Assessment and Feedback for Staff and Students using UNSW Review

Presented by Associate Professor Gigi Foster, School of Economics and Mr. Danny Carroll, Business Digital Learning (UNSW Business School)

Academics want to provide clear, personalized, prompt, and consistent feedback on student work. However, large class sizes and the use of teaching teams for marking present significant challenges, imperilling even the most well-thought-through assessment and feedback designs.

Gigi will summarise her experience of five years of continuous use of UNSW REVIEW, an online criteria-based assessment and feedback system. Gigi will describe and demonstrate where she has:

·         achieved efficiencies in marking and feedback provision

·         controlled marking and feedback quality in her large course

·         redesigned her course tasks to promote student reflection

·         encouraged student engagement with assessment through REVIEW’s in-built self-assessment feature

·         contributed to system development with new marks data visualisations

Danny will demonstrate the student experience in REVIEW. This will focus on students’ ability to:

·         practice self-assessment and reflection in tasks

·         view feedback from past courses

·         view self-assessment from past courses

·         produce personalised reports of their assessment mapped to Program Learning Goals
