The Moodle Quiz is a page where academics can build and release sets of questions for students to complete within a timeframe. It can meet many teaching needs, from simple, multiple-choice knowledge tests to complex, self-assessment tasks with detailed feedback. Moodle stores all quiz questions in a question bank, where academics can develop the questions, reuse them across quizzes and even randomly select questions.
The Moodle Quiz allows academics to conduct automatic and manually marked quizzes for students online. Quizzes are important for conducting formative and summative knowledge checks in Moodle.
The general way to develop a quiz is:
- Build questions in the Question Bank
- Create a Quiz activity with desired quiz behavior
- Release the quiz to your students
Develop Questions in the Question Bank
Every course has a single question bank that stores all quiz questions in the particular course. All instructors in the course can use the question bank to create, edit, or review questions.
It is important to develop questions in the question bank using appropriately named categories (folders) to ensure easy management of questions, especially after course rollover. Questions within a category can also be randomly selected within a quiz to provide different questions between students.

How can I remove a wrong question after the quiz has been taken?
You can not remove a question once a quiz has been taken by one student or more. However you can change the score and flag the question so you know it has problems. Set the score for that question to 0.
Can I have a quiz that is not graded?
Yes:
- On the quiz editing page, set the score for each question, and the total score for the quiz to 0.
- On the quiz settings page, there is a grid of check-boxes. Turn off all the ones in the score column.
Grades are not showing to students from the quiz.
The timing of displaying feedback and grades in a quiz is mainly controlled by the 'Review Options' setting. If 'Marks' is not ticked in the 'After the quiz is closed' options, grades will not be released to students.
There are many reasons for grades to be hidden. For direct assistance contact your Faculty support.
