Strategic Goals and Priorities for Learning and Teaching

Goals and priorities for 2012-2016

In keeping with UNSW's overarching aim for learning and teaching "to provide an outstanding student experience by ensuring the quality of our curricula, teaching, and infrastructure for learning and teaching" (UNSW Blueprint to Beyond), the university has articulated goals and priorities for the enhancement of learning and teaching in four broad areas:

Enhancing Learning

(Student Experience and Outcomes)

  • Goal L1 - Increase student engagement with the scholarly and cultural activities of the university
  • Goal L2 - Improve student experience of learning
  • Goal L3 - Improve student learning outcomes

Enhancing Curriculum

(Programs and Courses)

  • Goal C1 - Simplify academic program rules and structures
  • Goal C2 - Ensure that course designs reflect UNSW Beliefs About Learning
  • Goal C3 - Improve the educational integrity and efficiency of assessment practice
  • Goal C4 - Increase the level of effective use of technology to enable and support learning and teaching

Enhancing Teaching

(Staff Practice and Scholarship)

  • Goal T1 - Develop and support quality teaching through professional development
  • Goal T2 - Recognise and reward quality teaching
  • Goal T3 - Encourage, support and recognise scholarship and development in teaching and learning

Enhance Infrastructure for Learning and Teaching

(Organisational, Physical, Technological)

  • Goal I1 - Improve the organisational infrastructure that enables and supports learning and teaching
  • Goal I2 - Improve the physical spaces - both formal and informal - that enable and support learning and teaching
  • Goal I3 - Improve institutional infrastructure to support online learning and teaching

Faculty Learning and Teaching Enhancement Plans

These institutional goals and priorities inform individual Faculty, School and program level learning and teaching enhancement plans which are documented annually in Faculty Learning and Teaching Enhancement Plans (FLTEP).

Progress towards the achievement of the goals for enhancing learning and teaching articulated in FLTEP is monitored through the annual Faculty Review of Learning and Teaching (FRLT) process.
