Scheduling of lecture recordings in Echo360:
Your lecture will be automatically scheduled to record in Echo360 if it is:
- setup in an Echo360 enabled venue. A list of Echo360 enabled venues can be found here.
- within Weeks 1-10 of the UNSW Sydney term (Weeks 1-12 of the semester for UNSW Canberra)
- setup as a Lecture (LEC, LE1 or LE2) or Seminar (SEM, SE1 or SE2) component in Timetabling (Except UNSW Medicine and UNSW Law)
The recording starts at 5 minutes past and concludes at 5 minutes before the hour. For example, a lecture running from 9am to 11am will be recorded from 9:05am to 10:55am.
Note: Tutorials, laboratories and other timetabled sessions are NOT recorded by default. If you wish to record them, see the instructions below.
When you update your timetable scheduling for your lecture, the changes should reflect in Echo360 within 24-48 hours. If you make an urgent room/time change for your teaching session, please contact IT Service Centre ([email protected]) to log a service request ticket immediately.

Teaching in a lecture theatre:
Important notes:
When teaching in an Echo360 enabled venue, the recording starts and stops automatically in the background. Note the following:
Personal device: If you intend to bring a personal device into the venue, please test it ahead of time. Many devices (such as Macbook, iPad and Surface Pro) support a digital encryption standard known as HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) that will prevent the video signal from being recorded by Echo360 using HDMI cable. i.e. Echo360 will record a green screen.
Alternatively you can use an analogue adaptor (VGA cable) instead of the HDMI cable to connect your device to the projector.
- 5+5 minutes gap: Leave a five-minute gap at the start and end of your lecture for students to arrive/leave the venue and make their next class. This time period is not recorded, i.e., lecture from 9am-11am will be recorded from 9:05am - 10:55am.
- Teaching materials: Ensure all teaching materials that you wish to be recorded are displayed via the venue primary projector (Projector 1). Alternative video inputs such as the document camera or personal device will also be recorded if projected to Projector 1.
- Clear voice: Keep close to the podium microphone, or wear the lapel microphone available in the venue, to ensure that your voice is picked up clearly.
- Private conversations: We strongly recommend leaving the podium area before having a private conversation as Echo360 may record it.
If you have any questions about issues in the physical venue or need some assistance, please contact UNSW Multimedia & Audiovisual support x54888 (CATS AV).

Freeze Lecture Recording
Note: In some lecture recording venus, there is a Lumens Document Camera which allows you to project information onto the screen by placing an object (such as a textbook) under the camera lens and will also be recorded. To get more information, please go to Lumens Document Camera User Guide page.
