Inspera is a specialist software that hosts online assessments and exams in a similar way to how Moodle hosts course content. The questions in the assessment are still set and marked by teaching staff.
Inspera caters to both formative and summative assessments, offering several benefits including the improvement of the student and staff assessment experience, as well as the facilitation of effective pedagogical practices.
- Enhanced Student Experience: Inspera enhances student experience with diverse question formats, offline capability, and intuitive interface. It provides consistent assessment through a unified platform and offers advanced feedback options, including rubrics and plagiarism checks.
- Increased Efficiencies: Inspera's LMS-agnostic approach streamlines access, while centralized management simplifies high-stakes exams and result integration into Astra. The platform's versatility covers various assessment types, enhancing overall efficiency.
- Integrity Management: Inspera ensures assessment integrity with varied AI options (images, video, audio, drag & drop, hotspot detection, drawing, and uploads). It seamlessly integrates with Turnitin, generating per-question similarity reports, offering easy navigation, and enabling marking in Feedback Studio. For invigilated in-term and final exams, the platform incorporates Safe Exam Browser (SEB) for secure, closed-book assessments.

Once marks are confirmed from Inspera, they will be released to the Moodle Gradebook and scaled to the maximum mark set for this assessment. Moodle grades will sync to Astra according to the course set-up.
Final assessments in Inspera
Final assessment can be created in Inspera by entering exam requirements into myUNSW Assessment Planning. It can take the form of On Campus Invigilated Exams or off-campus (non-invigilated) exams and is centrally supported by the Exam team.

Once the marks are confirmed in Inspera, they will flow directly to Astra. For the detailed process of creating a final assessment in Inspera, please refer to Final Exam Learning Pathway.
Access to Inspera for staff
If staff members are accessing Inspera for the first time, they need to ensure that they have completed either of the following steps to enable their accounts in Inspera:
- Accepted their Examination role in myUNSW/Assessment Planning, OR
- Clicked on any Inspera LTI link in a Moodle course where they have staff-level access OR
- Enrolled as an instructor in Inspera Learning Playground (Instructor key: Instr_inspera). Navigated to Register in Inspera section and followed the instructions provided.
Once their account is created in Inspera, staff can access Inspera directly via Inspera website https://unsw.inspera.com/admin
To access a new Inspera assessment created in Moodle, staff should use the Inspera LTI link associated with that assessment in Moodle. This will ensure that Inspera can provision them to the assessment accordingly.
View user profile
Access your profile in Inspera to understand which roles and access levels you are having in Inspera. Please do not make any modifications to your first name, last name and email fields as it might break the connections to other systems including Moodle.
To access your profile, click on the gear icon in the top-right corner and select "Edit Profile."
Note: Only staff can access and view their profile.
Access to Inspera for students
There are 2 methods for students to access Inspera depending on the nature of the test:
- For tests created through Moodle LTI, students should use the LTI link to access Inspera. If a candidate cannot see or access the LTI link, they should contact the course convener.
- For final exams, which are administered by the Central Exam Team, students can directly visit the Inspera platform at https://unsw.inspera.com/, log in via Single-Sign-On (SSO) and access their exam. If a candidate cannot see a test, they should contact the Exams Team for assistance.
- For both Moodle LTI-created tests or centrally managed final exams, candidates can now view, attempt, and submit the test via the "New Candidate Dashboard". The new dashboard is a unified house for not only "summative exams" but also for "formative assessments". It drives the focus back to learning with the bespoke user experience for our formative capabilities Assessment Paths and Multiple Attempts. Please visit the New Candidate Dashboard page for further information.
