The Level up! block is a useful tool for allowing students to keep track of their activity and progression in the course. Instructors can also compare the progress of students in the course and use the tool to determine which students are active in the course and which students may need additional support or encouragement.
The block displays an experience bar and level for each student. The instructor can select certain activities or tasks which the student can do to gain experience points. These points fill up the student's experience bar and allow the student to be rewarded with a level each time their experience bar is filled.
The ladder feature can be enabled to display a ranked list of students, their experience points and levels. This allows students to view their own progress in relation to the rest of the students in the course and gives them an indication of whether they are ahead or falling behind.
Instructors have access to a report where they can see the experience points and level of all their students. This gives instructors a general understanding of how active students are in the course. This is different than keeping track of course completion since students can be allowed to gain experience points from general activity such as viewing pages, posting in forums or submitting assignments.
