Completion progress is a block that allows academics to display activity completion tasks as a visual progress bar.
This block is commonly used to:
- Provide academics with an additional progress bar-themed activity completion report
- Provide students with improved tracking and navigation to activity completion tasks
- Separate related completion tasks into multiple completion progress blocks
What is Completion Progress?
The Completion Progress block shows students their activity completion tasks' status across the course.
It is a useful time management tool for students, allowing students to track past and upcoming tasks from the course homepage. Staff can also compare the progress of students through the course and can use the tool to quickly determine who is engaged or who may need additional support.
The block can describe what activities have been submitted, marked, or require completion:
- Yellow: Submitted but not completed
- Red: Not completed
- Blue: Completed
- Grey: Future not completed
Staff and students can interact with the progress bar:
- Hover the mouse over a bar to see details of the task such as the requirements and deadline
- Click on a bar to open the activity/resource
Add a Completion Progress block
Staff can add 1 or more completion progress blocks into the blocks drawer on the right of the course. Each block can be set up to show all or a selected group of activity completion tasks.
The Completion Progress block will only be tracking progress if Completion tracking is enabled in the course. To enable Completion tracking, go to Course Administration > Edit settings > Completion tracking > Enable completion tracking.

The Completion Progress block displays the current user's progress within the course. This is quite useful for students for their learning experience, and useful for staff when they wish to test how the Completion Progress block will work for specific activities using their own account.

Can I choose which activities to track?
Choose "Selected activities" to selectively include activities in the completion progress block. Select activities within the "Select activities" area to display in the block. Multiple selections can be made by holding the 'ctrl' key and clicking or dragging. By default, all activities with activity completion set up will appear in the block unless "Selected activities" is chosen.
What do the colours mean?
Yellow: Submitted but not completed
Red: Not completed
Blue: Completed
Grey: Future not completed
