Group self-selection activity helps students take responsibility for establishing group dynamics from the outset, by selecting which group they will work best with. This is a flexible tool that allows teaching staff to adjust groups once students have made their selections, if there may be issues with the current arrangements.
Create a group self-selection activity
Creating a group self-selection activity is easy by selecting it from the activity picker as any other Moodle activity or resource. Some miscellaneous settings and permissions can be applied straight away as required.
Academic staff can make groups for students to join or allow students to form their own groups by adjusting the 'General permissions' settings. It is recommended for staff to store all self-select groups in a grouping for easier usage.

Change groups after students have selected
Group self-selection tool allows academics to still make changes in the groups if needed. Managing students in the groups, moving them across or removing them can be done. Groups can be created to reflect topics of an assignment that a student can choose to do. Then a group self-selection activity can be used with the groups to allow students to pick a group, i.e. deciding on the topic they would like to do.
