When creating new courses, learning materials such as PDFs and lecture slides should be uploaded as Moodle File resources. Doing so improves the student experience as it neatly integrates downloadable files into the course main page.
Upload a New File
Files can be added to your course like any other resource via the Moodle activity chooser.
Click 'Get Started' to view the step-by-step guide.
Add a File from Private Files Area
The private files area is for holding files, for use in any of the courses, that academics wish to remain inaccessible by students or other course developers or teachers. Private files are visible to Moodle administrators, but not any other roles in Moodle. Academics can link to a single file in their private files from one or more of their courses. This, together with increased security, is the main advantage of placing files here.

Add an Existing File
If you have previously uploaded a file to Moodle, you can reuse it in any Moodle course.

Do Private files block has storage capacity?
Once you click "Manage Private files" in the "Private file" block, it gives you the indication at the top of how much storage is used and remaining. Note that some big files might not be uploaded due to the size limit.
How to organise uploaded files?
In the file upload section there is a folder icon:
It allows folders to be created for easy organising.
