Leveraging the ability of 360 video to bring a player/student right into the space where a real scenario took place is very strong. This technology can take many forms and innovation in this area helps us reinforce the benefits while exploring options for improving the inherent quirks of the media for both screen and virtual reality.
Project Details
Explorations with the 360 video medium has fuelled development on projects like TALIA (virtual field trip platform), Riding with Amy (disabilities experience), My First Day (student empathy), Trauma Surgery Room (hospital scenario), Board Room (international business scenario) and more. Looking at options for stereo, interactivity, narrative, resolution, controls for each project then improves the others. Current mobile VR headsets and often many web browsers arent able to render highly graphical scenes, 360 video gives us superb realism of the environment even if it is video and not 3D.
TECHNOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT
The active design and development of the project continues in collaboration with academic staff, education designers and their students. The staff and work integrated learning student developers are using the Unity game engine to bring together all the elements and deliver the VR experience using our Meta Quest 3 headsets.
