For detailed information, please see Echo360 General Requirements.
Echo embed links stopped working
Echo360 (LR+) domain name has changed from echo360.org.au to echo360.net.au.
This affects existing Echo embed links as they are still pointing to the old URL echo360.org.au. You will have to edit your embed code by changing from echo360.org.au to echo360.net.au.
Alternatively you can generate a new embed link in Echo360 as the new links are pointing to echo360.net.au.
Note: Echo360 LR+ LTI links in Moodle are not affected.
Many new devices (such as Macbook and iPad) support a digital encryption standard known as HDCP (high definition copyright protection) that will prevent the video signal from being recorded. If possible, you can use an analog adaptor (such as VGA) instead of HDMI cable to connect your device to the projector. Alternately, turning off HDCP on the portable device, if the device supports this.
For more information, please contact venue support to identify if this is the cause of your issue.

You do not have admin right to install software on a SOE computer, please raise a ticket with IT via email [email protected] to install Universal Capture.
What can I do if I get an error of launching Universal Capture?
If you have an error launching Universal Capture as below, it may be a network configuration issue.
Please disable Firewall or enable http + https communication via System Setting and re-launch Universal Capture. If you still have problems launching the software, please contact the IT Service Centre via email to [email protected] .
Why my recording is not available in my Echo360 library after I record a session via Universal Capture?
This may because you haven't been authenticated to login Universal Capture. Please ensure that you have logined Universal Capture every time before you start recording. After you login the software, your name should appear on tht top right hand corner.
If Echo recordings in the venues are stopped in the future, will it impact my personal capture recordings?
No, recording in the venues and your personal recording are two separate services. There is no impact on your personal recording if we stop recording in actual venues.
You can still create a class in Echo to upload your personal capture recordings or any other video files. To do this, please click on the ‘New Class’ button on the upper right hand corner as below:
Policies
Opt-out policy
If you wish to opt out, please refer to ‘Opt out of lecture recording’ section in The Schedule of Lecture Recordings.
Copyright policy
Staff are responsible for ensuring that they perform their due diligence around their copyright requirements.
Copying and communication of copyright material at UNSW, including material such as text, diagrams, music or images recorded using UNSW Lecture Recordings+(called Echo360/LR+ ), is reliant on the Part VA and VB licences and is subject to the limits and provisions of the Copyright Act 1968. Material must be restricted to staff and students of the university and not available for access by the general public.
The UNSW Library copyright website contains some details on copyright compliance and copyright warning notices. In addition, under the Moral Rights Act 2000, standard academic practices must be followed so that the name of the author and the title of a work are included on copies.
Privacy policy
Staff are responsible for ensuring that any privacy concerns for themselves, colleagues and students are met.
When lectures are being recorded for UNSW Echo360/LR+, the requirements of privacy legislation must be considered, in particular, of the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW). Full details of the Information Protection Principles that apply to UNSW are located in the UNSW Privacy Management Plan.
"Personal information" is defined in the Act as: "information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database and whether or not recorded in a material form) about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion".
The types of personal information that are most likely to be collected during recording of a lecture are:
- the identities of speakers and personal opinions held by them that they express during the lecture
- information or opinions about other people, where a speaker talks about a third party whose identity is apparent or is reasonably ascertainable.
Staff should be particularly careful to ensure that case studies relating to individuals are properly de-identified.
Although notices alerting attendees to the use of UNSW Lecture Recordings+ (called Echo360/LR+) will be posted in lecture theatres, staff should inform the audience that the lecture is being recorded and should ensure that any latecomers are also informed.
Echo360/LR+ Introduction clip
The pre-roll intro clip to recordings made via the UNSW Lecture Recording+(called Echo360/LR+) service was created by our Brian Landrigan, Manager Media and Immersive Technologies.

Which venues are available for Echo360/LR+?

Can I present contents using my own device?
Yes, you can. However, many new devices (such as Macbook and iPad) support a digital encryption standard known as HDCP (high definition copyright protection) that will prevent the video signal from being recorded. Alternatively you can use an analog adaptor (such as VGA) instead of HDMI cable to connect your device to the projector.
For more information, please check in Teaching in lecture theatre .
How can I update schedule information?
You can update the schedule information in Timetabling. If you make a last minute time/venue change, please call IT Service Centre on x51333 as changes take 24-48 hours to make effective.
Please check detailed information in The Schedule of Lecture Recordings page.
When will my recording be available?
When a lecture is completed, the capture appliance in the venue will process the file. Once complete, it will become available automatically.
The length of the lecture determines how long it will take to process. We generally recommend waiting 24 hours before raising any incidents, because peak time like Week 1 and 2 will take a bit longer to process the files.
Can I utilise the interactive features of Echo360/LR+ for my tutorials?
Yes, but creating a class in Echo class list does not schedule a recording automatically. You can use the "New Class" option of Echo360/LR+ to use its interactive abilities. For more information on creating new classes.
