There are many sources of support through: 

  • Evidence-based resources that you can integrate into your curriculum
  • Specific training support to do so, and
  • Communities of Practice (CoP) where educators support each other

Evidence-based resources

Training support

  • Contact the HUI Co-leaders to collaborate in running workshops
  • Watch previous training videos in General resources
  • Watch ‘how to’ videos in Course convenor practical examples
  • Join the UNSW Student Wellbeing Community of Practice (see below)

For Program Directors, and School/Faculty Education Leaders:

  • See the Whole-of-University and Faculty/School approaches page, particularly the draft Guidelines for practical steps to create a systematic approach
  • Recommend/ require specialist courses eg PSYC1062, PSYC1031, PSYC1023, CDEV1112, GENY0001

For Course convenors and course staff:

  • Analyse your teaching & assessment activities week-by-week, determining where students need extra help, and choose relevant resources/tools/activities. In Moodle resources, see Jenny Richmond’s self-management planning video and her planning template. The general principles apply regardless of what resources you are using
  • Undertake a Self-Determination Theory needs analysis - available in Course convenor practical examples
  • Adopt artificial intelligence measures to support students through your learning management system. Talk to your Education Leader, or UNSW Science academics Associate Professor Jenny Richmond or Dr Rebecca LeBard who are currently piloting a Moodle template, or see the work of Associate Professor Jaclyn Broadbent (Deakin).
  • A combination of the above!

Communities of Practice (CoP)

UNSW Student Wellbeing Community of Practice

Watch the Introduction and Invitation to Student Wellbeing video (3mins, UNSW staff only).

This CoP is led by Education Focused academics, however all academic and professional staff are invited to join. The CoP is working to monitor and enhance wellbeing for students at different stages of learning and in various teaching environments. Their main aims are to audit available resources, evaluate their practical application and recommend how these resources can be effectively integrated into courses.

A number of useful projects are being undertaken by this CoP, and as they become available, will be listed below:

- COVID-19 Wellbeing Concerns This report, based on focus group data, provides an overview of university-wide and faculty-specific concerns. UNSW staff can read more about the Student Wellbeing CoP guide or contact: Dr Gavin Mount or Dr Linda Ferrington for more information
